πŸŽ‰ Presenting: 3-2-1 by Story Rules 🎊

Published about 1 year agoΒ β€’Β 2 min read

After the milestone 100th issue of 'Story Rules on Saturday' last week, I’m kinda sad to announce that I’m discontinuing this content recommendations series.

I'll be honest - this has not been an easy decision... I'd have loved to continue 'Story Rules on Saturday'.

But this current format was very effort intensive and it did have a hidden opportunity cost – lesser time for long-form writing and podcast conversations.

So my gratitude to all of you who read it regularly and gave me your encouragement and kind words. Hopefully I'll be able to make up for its absence with some more 'value-added' stuff:

  • More long-form posts that dive deep into aspects of the storytelling craft. I already have four ideas in mind for this year and plan to post one per quarter
  • More podcast conversations
  • Work on the much delayed podcast nuggets (it'll be exciting!)

Of course, I'm not abandoning the 7:30 am slot on Saturdays - these will be filled in by a new, shorter format that I'm introducing from today!

Introducing: 3-2-1 by Story Rules

So what is the new 3-2-1 format like?

This would be a short email with

  • 3 tweets
  • 2 article links
  • 1 long-form content recommendation (podcast or book)

Each piece of content will have a one-line summary from me indicating why it is worth a read/listen.

Let's dive in.

🐦 3 Tweets of the week

They say journalism is the first draft of history, and first drafts are supposed to be shitty. This tweet offers a good question to ponder.

This LinkedIn profile is a great example of boiling down a job to its simplest essence.

Shreyas has a point - though the Sunday evening blues never fully go away, at least for me.

πŸ“„ 2 Articles of the week

a. The Attention Span. β€œWeight of the World.”

A thought-provoking piece that builds on this quote by Jess McGawley: β€œParents are good at preparing the money for the person, they are often less good at preparing the person for the money.”

b. Everything You Can’t Have by Morgan Housel

Your brain does not crave new stuff like cars, clothes and cottages - it craves dopamine.

🎀 1 podcast episode of the week

a. Building for Tomorrow by the a16z podcast

Jason Feifer of the brilliant Build for Tomorrow podcast summarises his recent book and shares six ideas about how you can adapt better to change (and influence others too).

That's it - a short and hopefully sweet beginning to the '3-2-1 by Story Rules' series.

Please let me know what you think of the new format.

And yes, please share with me your request for long-form posts on storytelling and recommendations for podcast guests!
